Seeds are usually planted directly into the ground, after soaking in water for 24 hours. Prepare the soil by digging and adding fertilizer. You also can add sand and lime. Plant seeds around ½ inch deep.  Cover lightly with soil mixed with wood ash, water it, and cover with foil. Germination should occur within 5 to 7 days. After germination remove the foil and start watering the plants. Fertilize once every 10 days. Plant cucumbers in sunny areas near plants that attract bees during the flowering period.
